Rail Fence blocks come in all shapes and sizes and there’s probably a million ways to arrange this block to create all sorts of effects. I decided to keep it simple with a Rail Fence four patch that creates a cute spinning effect in the middle.

Let’s Make a Flying Birds Block – Mini Block Monday #18 from The Free Motion Quilting Project

There are lots and lots and LOTS of traditional quilt blocks with the name “birds” in the title. This Flying Birds block is one of my favorites! When writing Mally the Maker and the Queen in the Quilt, I imagined this block would turn into one giant bird and six smaller birds. Definitely gave Mally a lot of bang for her buck!
